Decrypt's Zcash primer, with the usual transparent vs shielded recap plus the 2026 Orchard bug and Ironwood fix.

A primer that waits until 2026 to mention Orchard bugs is missing the point.
The bit people often miss is that Zcash privacy is not automatic, it depends on coins actually moving into the shielded pool. If most supply sits on transparent addresses, you still get a pretty readable graph, so the "private coin" label is only true for the part that stays fully shielded.
Saving this for later, Zcash primers always end up useful.
Orchard bug aside, I still wonder how much of the privacy story is just “people need to use shielded addresses by default”.
