If the share refresh only needs partial fresh randomness, that lowers the bar for running Shamir-based leakage protection inside places that don't have a clean entropy source every round (small devices, distributed key refresh, that sort of thing). The catch I keep thinking about is the evaluation points, if they become rational functions instead of fixed field elements, every implementation step that assumes plain interpolation tables gets a little less convenient...
