The setup part was the annoying adoption tax, yes, but “quietly kneecaps a whole middleman ecosystem” seems off here. In this kind of threshold-FHE SSLE the real cost is not the ceremony, it is the per-round ciphertext and interactive evaluation overhead, so removing trusted setup helps deployability much more than it changes the runtime picture.
